Fundraiser for Hearts on Noses Mini Pig Sanctuary at Karmavore (The Vegan Shop), Saturday, December 5, 2009

On Saturday, December 5th, 2009, Karmavore (The Vegan Shop) will be hosting a fundraiser for Hearts on Noses Mini Pig Sanctuary with special guest Sarah Kramer, a well-known author of several vegan cookbooks (which served me rather well when I first went switched to an all vegan diet). You can purchase tickets for the event for one of 3 possible time slots: 5:00-6:00PM, 6:00PM-7:00PM, and 7:00PM-8:00PM. The ticket price includes:

  • Sarah Karmer’s 2010 Go Vegan Calendar (autographed)
  • A chance to meet Sarah Kramer in person.
  • Free vegan cupcakes and appetizers provided by Vancouver Vegan Cupcake Queen & VeganMania. (Since the food will probably not be raw, it’s obviously of little interest to me — but if you still consume a non-trivial amount of cooked foods, this might be a nice draw for you.)
  • Special Store Sale Event – 10% OFF EVERYTHING (Karmavore donates 10% of all sales).
  • $10 donation to Hearts on Noses (the main reason you’re going to the event right?)

Karmavore (The Vegan Shop) is located at at 468 E. Columbia Street, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada and is accessible by public transit. To find out more about the event please see the event announcement on KarmaTalk – Karmavore’s blog or the PDF event flyer. Please visit the Karmavore’s main event announcement to purchase tickets online via Paypal.

To find out more about Sarah Kramer, you can check out the Wikipedia page for Sarah Kramer or visit her website GoVegan.net. You can purchase Sarah’s cookbooks on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, and at many other retailers (both online and off) — including, of course, Karmavore (The Vegan Shop) :)

Hearts on Noses Mini Pig Sanctuary is a “… registered non-profit society in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, that rescues, rehabilitates and cares for unwanted, injured, orphaned, abused, neglected and abandoned mini-pigs.”1 To find out more the mini pig sanctuary, please visit the Hearts on Noses website and the Hearts on Noses blog.

One last thing before ending this post — in my view it’s terrible that places like Hearts on Noses exists in the first place — having to care for abused mini pigs is the direct result of the institution of pet ownership. I encourage everyone to read Gary L. Francione’s thoughts on domesticated non-humans and listen to his Abolitionist Approach Commentary on pets.
