I’ve been on the lookout for recipes in which I can include the superfood maca. This recipe is a modification of the almond banana shake recipe presented in The Raw 50: 10 Amazing Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Drinks for Your Raw Food Lifestyle by Carol Alt
and David Roth.
Equipment
- Blender
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana sliced
- 1 cup almond milk (see the recipe I use)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1-2 tsp maca powder
Directions
- Blend all the ingredients into a smooth shake
- Enjoy!
Recipe Variation
Try replacing the 1 cup of almond milk with 1 cup of organic walnut milk. I’ve tested this myself and was happy with the results — it makes for a shake with a different character than the almond milk. If you try this variation out, please let us know what you think by sharing your thoughts in the comments section of this post.

Hi Everyone,
Another possible variation: use organic Brazil nut milk in place of the almond milk or walnut milk. I haven’t come up with a Brazil nut milk recipe that I’m totally happy with, but making a Brazil nut milk by simply replacing the almonds in the home made vanilla almond milk recipe or the organic walnut milk recipe works well for this smoothie/shake recipe. Note that using either walnut milk or Brazil nut milk does give the recipe a different character — but sometimes it’s nice to mix things up a little
The other benefit or using either Brazil or walnut milk in place of almond milk is that you can still get your organic cinnamon and maca fix even if you run out of raw organic almonds.
Has anyone tried any other variations on the recipe presented above? If so, please share your experiences in the comments section.
Wishing Everyone health and happiness!
