This smoothie recipe is a personal modification of the Blue Green Power recipe from Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen: Easy, Delectable Living Foods Recipies by Ani Phyo. It’s a good way to get two super foods into your diet — maca root powder and blue-green algae.
Ingredients
- 1-2 Tbsp of shelled hemp seeds or Sproutein
- 1 Tbsp of maca root powder
- 1 Tbsp spirulina powder or other blue-green algae
- 2 tsp flax seeds, whole or freshly ground
- 3 ripe bananas
- 3 cups of water
Directions
Blend everything well in a blender and enjoy.
This recipe can be safely modified to one’s own taste. For example, Ani Phyo uses 3 Tbsp of blue-green algae in her recipe. I find this too much. She also calls for only 2 bananas. I’ve experimented some, but I don’t enjoy the smoothie unless I add that extra banana. If you use Sproutein in your smoothie, you can cut back on the amount of maca you add in, as Sproutein already contains some black maca root. Something I want to try is replacing the spirulina powder I currently use with E3Live. Once I do, I’ll report the results here.
I’d like to hear about your personal variations on this recipe. Please add them in the comments section below.

Hi Everyone!
I tried replacing the spirulina powder with E3Live some time ago. I most definitely think the spirulina powder goes better in the recipe than E3Live. I prefer consuming E3Live with raw organic young coconut milk.
I’ve also tried replacing the flax seeds with chia seeds. Either type of seed works well, thought the taste does change slightly as a result.
Wishing everyone health and happiness!
